Welcome

Kendyl looking backBrisbane Dance Theatre (BDT) was conceived out of a need to offer children and Adults of the South Brisbane community exceptional training in Contemporary Dance, Classical Ballet, Pilates, Music (Piano) and Hip Hop from highly qualified teachers. All classes are held at the one location which hosts 3 studios – 2 purpose built dance studios each with sprung floors and tarkett and our Music Room. Our Tiptoe dance programme caters for children between the ages of 2-5 and our Classical Ballet programme is for students from 5 years of age and follows the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) training and assessment programme which is based on the Russian (Vaganova) method. Vaganova training emphasizes dynamics and subtleties associated with correct placement and performing qualities in a dancer.

MOST PROFESSIONAL BALLET COMPANIES GIVE CLASSES IN THE RUSSIAN STYLE BECAUSE OF ITS ACKNOWLEDGED STRENGTH AND PERFORMING QUALITY, IT IS THEREFORE LOGICAL TO TEACH STUDENTS THIS METHOD FROM THE EARLY STAGES RIGHT THROUGH THEIR TRAINING YEARS” – Christine Walsh AM

Brisbane Dance Theatre is privileged to have such a high calibre of teachers with diverse experience and capabilities. Our teachers have danced and trained with professional ballet companies as well as performed for professional contemporary dance companies giving them the rare ability to teach at a high level in both disciplines.  This feature is something Brisbane Dance Theatre is very proud of!  We are very excited to have the following dance teachers at Brisbane Dance Theatre:
Anastacia McCallum, Melissa Lee, John Sandurski, Louise Deleur and guest teacher Shane Weatherby.

The teaching of Dance is not a one stop shop

As every “body” is different, so is the way an experienced eye will mould each child to achieve correct line and technique. BDT offers personalised coaching in a friendly and caring environment with the support of their teachers and peers.  We believe wholeheartedly that every child is a dancer and can achieve in this compelling art form.
