  • How can I pay my fees?

All invoices are sent via email at the beginning of each term, and have a clear due date in the top right-hand corner.

You can pay your invoice by bank transfer, credit card, cash or cheque.

Families with invoices over $300 have the option of entering into a payment plan with Brisbane Dance Theatre.  If you wish to pay your invoice this way, please contact us directly or visit us at the studio.

  • Is there a late fee if I do not pay my invoice on time?

Yes, we charge a $25 late fee to all invoices that are not paid by the due date. • What happens if my child misses a class?

We offer make up lessons for any lessons missed.  Your child is welcome to attend another class that suits you with in the same term of the missed class.  Due to class capacity limits, make up lessons must be booked by emailing admin@brisbanedancetheatre.com.au

Refunds are not offered for any missed lessons.  Exceptions are made for medical emergencies.

Class Information

  • Does my child need to wear a uniform?

Yes, the correct dance shoes and dance wear is required in all classes.

Brisbane Dance Theatre has all our uniforms custom made and are for sale at the studio.

To read through our Uniform Requirements, please click here.

  • Is my child allowed to wear jewellery or Fitbits/Garmins/Apple Watches to class?

For safety reasons, students are not to wear jewellery to class.  Small earrings are accepted.

Fitbits, Garmin & Apple Watches are not only a distraction, but can cause harm to other students, so they are not permitted in class.

  • Are phones allowed in class?

Very simply, no.  All phones should remain in our students bags for the duration of their lessons.

  • Is there a safe place for my child to leave their belongings?

Yes, our studios house an ample waiting room with bag cubby’s for younger students, and a Green Room with lockable lockers for students who attend 4 or more dance styles per week.

These lockers can be hired from the studio for $25 per annum with a $15 key replacement fee if one should get misplaced.

  • Are parents allowed to sit in on classes?

We believe that our students get more benefit from their classes if parents remain outside.

The Misty Copeland Studio does have a ‘watching window’ in which parents can watch classes through.  We do ask that if you are to stand at the window to try and not distract your child, as it disrupts the flow of our classes.

The last week of Term 1, 2 & 3 is our dedicated ‘Watching Week’, where family and friends are invited to the studio to watch our classes.

Concerts & Exams

  • Do you have an end of year performance?

Yes!  Concert time is our favourite time year!

All students are invited and encouraged to perform in our end of year concert.

Concert forms are given out at the end of Term Two, as concert preparations begin in Term Three.

  • What happens if my child does not want to do the concert?

We believe that the concert is a wonderful way for students to boost their confidence levels, build lasting friendships and feel a sense of achievement for their years’ work, but we understand that performing on stage isn’t for every student.

If this is the case for your child, or you are going to be away for the concert, we still encourage students to attend their regular lessons.  We are very inclusive and make sure that everyone feels equal regardless of if they have chosen to take part in the concert or not.

  • What happens with concert costumes?  Do I have to sew?

All costumes are provided by Brisbane Dance Theatre and no sewing is needed, except for the occasional tacking stitch here or there.

We try to keep all costumes under $100, and depending on the dance, are purchased in full by the student, or hired from BDT.

Once concert forms have been returned, a $40 costume deposit is added to every students account at the beginning of term 3, for each dance that student is performing in.  Then the balance is added midway through term 4.

Costumes can not be collected until all costume and term fees have been settled.

  • Do you offer Ballet Examinations?

Yes.  We participate in annual American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum examinations.

ABT Student Examinations benefit students by serving as a skill assessment to document students' progress, build their confidence, and improve their training.

Each participating student receives an individual rubric outlining his or her proficiently both technically and artistically with comments from the Examiner.  Students who successfully pass the exam will also receive an offical certificate listing the level of examination class they took along with their level of distinction.  Examinations include workshops with the ABT examiner, exclusive to Brisbane Dance Theatre.

To be eligible for an ABT NTC Examination, students must attend 2 syllabus classes per week.

Students in Level One B, Level Two, Level Three & Level Four must also attend a weekly Body Conditioning class.

Level Three & Four students are also required to attend a weekly Pointe lesson, as their curriculum includes Pointe work.

  • Do you offer Tap Examinations?

Yes!  We offer annual Comdance Tap examinations to all eligible students.

Students must attend one tap class per week and meet the age and technical syllabus requirements to take part in an exam.
