Tiptoe Dance

(2 to 5 years)

Our Tiptoe Classical Dance Programme offers specialised classes in ballet which are enjoyable for both boys and girls aged between 2 and 5 years. We have so much to tell you about this beautiful programme, so please click here to read more.

Prep Ballet

(Prep at School)

Brisbane Dance Theatre has created Prep Ballet which is a Ballet grade built by our teachers to bridge the gap between our Tiptoe Program and the ACB Syllabus. This level gives our students the knowledge and technique to progress to Pre-Primary and into Ballet Exam seamlessly, while still incorporating props and imaginative games and exercises to stimulate these young Ballerinas.

Classical Ballet

(6 years and up)

Brisbane Dance Theatre follows the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) – Vaganova Training and assessment program. The ACB is a classical ballet program which emphasises dynamics and subtleties associated with correct placement and performing qualities in a dancer. The program aims to develop in the student a professional attitude which will assist them in the pursuit of a career, either as a professional dancer or teacher.

Examinations are held annually under the ACB on both technique and theory and are a great way for students to work towards their set goals.

The program is designed for the dedicated ballet teacher who has professional dance in their background. At Brisbane Dance Theatre we are proud of our high calibre of teachers who have themselves danced professionally.

(Pre-pointe and Beginners Pointe)

Our students start performing Pointe work in their Level Four exams. To ensure our students safety, we begin Pre-Pointe lessons in Level Three, giving them the strength and flexibility to have a long and successful career on Pointe without injury.

Contemporary Dance

(6 years and up)

Contemporary Dance and Stretch is an expressive dance form combining elements of classical ballet, modern dance and stretching techniques. We have classes for children, starting from 6 years of age.

(3 years and up)

Jazz classes are high energy and lots of fun. Your child will learn the basics of various Hip-Hop and Jazz techniques and styles while dancing routines to popular music. Our Jazz classes are split into classes for all ages, including adults, so please see our timetable for class times.

Musical Theatre

Brisbane Dance Theatre’s Musical Theatre programme fosters individuality, creativity and a love for musical theatre through acting, singing and dancing. Our students study a different musical each term to learn the art form, self expression and creativity of all 3 genres to enhance their overall musicality and knowledge of this programme.

Tap Classes

Tap is here!!!  Are you ready to make amazing sounds and rhythms with your feet?

Brisbane Dance Theatre follows the Tapatak Oz syllabus. There are 6 key ingredients to this stand out syllabus: Technique; Performance & Personality; Content & Choreography; Dynamics & Rhythmic Variation; Passion & Individuality; and Fun & Creativity.

Brisbane Dance Theatre follows the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus. The program is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in 5 divisions of AcroDance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling.

Developed with input from professionals and experts in Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz, Contortion, Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics, Yoga, Acro Yoga, Pilates, Physiotherapy, Hand Balancing and more, you will not find a more comprehensive program.

Simple, thoughtful progressions take the beginner preschool level dancer from log rolls and somersaults to the advanced dancer tumbling effortlessly across the stage!

Body Conditioning/Open Ballet/Progressing Ballet Technique

New to Brisbane Dance Theatre in 2018, we have created this one-of-a-kind class to give our students additional strength and flexibility that works hand-in-hand with all dance classes.

Body Conditioning will work on strength and flexibility through fun and energetic exercises in a circuit format.

Open Ballet adds additional Ballet styles to our students vocabularies that are taught in Ballet syllabuses other than the ACB syllabus that Brisbane Dance Theatre follows.

Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best in classical ballet.

Uniform Requirements

Ballet students must wear the studio uniform to their classes. We believe uniforms instil a sense of pride in oneself and makes students feel apart of a team environment. It is for these reasons all students attending Classical Ballet and Tiptoe dance classes are asked to wear our school uniform.

Learning ballet is wonderful for children even if they never become dancers. It is wonderful because it teaches discipline, grace, and manners.
