Our First Steps
Brisbane Dance Theatre was conceived out of a need to offer children in the South Brisbane community the opportunity to to receive exceptional dance training from highly qualified teachers.
Heading into it’s 10 year, Brisbane Dance Theatre and it’s teachers have had the absolute pleasure of delivering dance education to hundreds of students.
Our Ethos
At Brisbane Dance Theatre, we believe that the teaching of Dance is not a one stop shop. We believe that every ‘body’ is different, and so is the way an experienced eye will mould each child to achieve correct line and technique. And that is why we offer personalised coaching in a friendly and caring environment, with the support of our teachers and peers. We believe wholeheartedly that every child is a dancer and can achieve in this compelling art form.
Whether your child is looking for a fun form of exercise, would like to challenge themselves by taking part in examinations, would like perform at events around Brisbane or have aspirations for a career in dance, we have a pathway for every student.
Our Teachers
Brisbane Dance Theatre is privileged to have a high calibre of teachers with diverse experience and capabilities. Our teachers have danced and trained with professional ballet companies, in shows, video clips and movies, as well as on cruise ships. Our teachers have the rare ability to teach at a high level in all disciplines. This experience is something Brisbane Dance Theatre is very proud of!
Our Dance Classes
All of our classes are held at our studio in Coorparoo, where we have 2 purpose-built dance studios, each with sprung floors and tarkett, mirrors, fixed barres and state of the art sound systems.
We offer a range of age-suitable classes in Wiggles World of Dance, Ballet (American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum), Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Acrobatics, Comdance Tap, Hip Hop and Body Conditioning. We also offer private coaching to all students.
Brisbane Dance Theatre is proud to have a Social Performance Troupe & Elite Performance Troupe for students who wish to take their dancing to the next level.
Wiggles World of Dance - Beautiful Ballet
Developed by Industry leaders and Australian Ballet Dancers, Beautiful Ballet is a pre-introduction to our American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum and is a loveable dance program that aims to provide a guiding education to little ones from 12 months of age.
“In the year 2000 the ABT staff went on an intensive retreat to answer the question: What makes an ideal ABT dancer?
The answer: A dancer who is versatile and can meet the growing demands of both classical and contemporary work.
ABT’s Artistic Director, Kevin McKenzie, likened it to opening a wardrobe and being able to mix and match its contents.”
