Why walk when you can dance?

Our First Steps

Brisbane Dance Theatre was founded by Anastacia McCallum in 2011. It was conceived out of a need to offer children and adults in the South Brisbane community the opportunity to to receive exceptional dance training from highly qualified teachers.

In 2013, Miss Stacey’s long and successful career took her to Melbourne, passing Brisbane Dance Theatre over to Sally Muntz.

Our Ethos

At Brisbane Dance Theatre, we believe that the teaching of Dance is not a one stop shop. We believe that every “body” is different, and so is the way an experienced eye will mould each child to achieve correct line and technique. And that is why we offer personalised coaching in a friendly and caring environment, with the support of our teachers and peers. We believe wholeheartedly that every child is a dancer and can achieve in this compelling art form.

Our Teachers

Brisbane Dance Theatre is privileged to have a high calibre of teachers with diverse experience and capabilities. Our teachers have danced and trained with professional ballet companies, as well as performed for professional contemporary dance companies, giving them the rare ability to teach at a high level in both disciplines. This experience is something Brisbane Dance Theatre is very proud of!

Our Dance Classes

All of our classes are held at our studio in Cooparoo, where we have 2 purpose-built dance studios, each with sprung floors and tarkett, and a Music Room.

We offer a range of age-suitable classes in Ballet (Australian Conservatoire of Ballet Syllabus), Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Tap, Musical Theatre and Body Conditioning. We also have classes in Adult Barre Fitness and Jazz Fitness, and we offer private lessons to all students.

We also have a Performance Troupe for students who represent our studio at performances and competitions year-round. In 2019 we will offer Certificate III & IV in Dance and Assistant Dance Teaching to our students and to students of near by schools to help them further their studies in dance.

Our Tiptoe Dance Programme

Our Tiptoe dance programme - pioneered by Miss Stacey and our wonderful Miss Melissa - caters for children between the ages of 2 and 5, while our Classical Ballet programme is for students from 5 years of age, and follows the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet (ACB) training and assessment programme which is based on the Russian (Vaganova) method.

Vaganova training emphasizes dynamics and subtleties associated with correct placement and performing qualities in a dancer.

Most professional ballet companies give classes in the Russian style because of its acknowledged strength and performing quality, it is therefore logical to teach students this method from the early stages right through their training years.
