TipToe Dance

(18 months to 4 years)

TipToe Dance is where tiny dreams take their very first twirl.

Created especially for children aged 18 months to 4 years, our program gently introduces the foundations of Ballet and Jazz through stories, music and imaginative play. Each class feels like stepping into a world of wonder; Where confidence grows, friendships blossom, and every child is celebrated for who they are.

Our experienced teachers (many of whom are parents themselves) know how to nurture curious little dancers with patience, warmth and encouragement. We focus on joy, movement and self-expression, helping your child develop coordination, listening skills and creativity; All within a caring, supportive environment.

TipToe Dance isn’t just a class, it’s the beginning of a beautiful dance journey.

Pointe

(11+ Years - Level Three Ballet & up)

At Brisbane Dance Theatre, we approach pointe work with great care and respect for every dancer’s body.

Our students begin preparing gently in Level Two B with dedicated Pre-Pointe classes, where we focus on building strong foundations, alignment, and awareness. This thoughtful preparation allows them to progress to Pointe work confidently and safely when they reach Level Three exams.

It is deeply important to us that each dancer develops the strength and flexibility they need, so they can enjoy a long, healthy and rewarding journey en pointe, free from unnecessary strain or injury.

Lyrical/Contemporary Dance

(7 years and up)

Lyrical & Contemporary Dance at Brisbane Dance Theatre is all about expression, emotion, and storytelling through movement.

Starting from age 7, dancers explore graceful lines, modern dance flow, and creative movement that lets them connect with the music and with their own imagination. Classes are fun, inspiring, and full of opportunities to express personality, mood, and emotion, while building strength, flexibility, and confidence.

It’s the perfect way for young dancers to dance with feeling, move with freedom, and let their creativity shine on stage.

Jazz

(5 years and up)

Jazz at Brisbane Dance Theatre is all about energy, rhythm and confidence!

Our jazz classes get kids moving with dynamic kicks, turns and jumps while learning a range of different and exciting jazz styles.

Dancers groove along to age-appropriate popular music, build strong technique, and have a blast performing fun, upbeat routines with their friends.

It’s the perfect mix of skill-building and pure joy on the dance floor!

Hip Hop

(5 years and up)

Hip Hop at Brisbane Dance Theatre is all about energy, attitude, and having a blast on the dance floor!

Our classes mix the freshest street styles — breaking, popping, locking and more, giving dancers the chance to move, groove, and own their unique style. Students are encouraged to bring their personality to every routine, experiment with fun moves, and build confidence while learning the tricks and rhythms of hip hop culture.

It’s high-energy, super fun, and the perfect way for young dancers to get funky, feel unstoppable, and dance like nobody’s watching!

Tap Classes

(5 years and up)

Tap at Brisbane Dance Theatre is where dancers turn their feet into instruments!

Our tap classes are lively, noisy and full of personality. Dancers learn rhythm, timing, balance and coordination while creating patterns of sound with every step. With a mix of music styles and tempos, students learn to “listen differently” and pick up beats they may never have noticed before.

Tap is joyful, confidence-boosting, and seriously fun, because there’s nothing quite like making music with your feet!

Acrobatics

(5 years and up)

Acrobatics at Brisbane Dance Theatre gives dancers strength, confidence — and wow-factor skills they can use on stage.

Our program follows the internationally recognised Acrobatic Arts syllabus, designed to teach acro safely through smart, step-by-step progressions. Dancers develop flexibility, strength, balance, limbering and tumbling — always building skills at a pace that supports their bodies as they grow.

What makes our acro classes special is how seamlessly the skills transfer into other styles. Those cartwheels, handstands, walkovers and tumbling passes are then woven into jazz, lyrical, contemporary and performance routines, helping dancers feel more powerful, fearless and expressive.

From first log rolls to confident tumbling across the stage, acrobatics gives our dancers the tools to move with control — and the courage to try something new.

Musical Theatre

(5 years and up)

Musical Theatre at Brisbane Dance Theatre is where kids shine on stage: singing, dancing, and acting with confidence!

Our classes are full of energy, laughter, and creativity as students explore songs, choreography, and stories from beloved musicals. Every child is encouraged to express themselves, try new things, and grow their performance skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.

It’s more than just learning steps, it’s about bringing characters to life, having fun, and discovering the magic of the stage together!

Private Coaching

All of our Brisbane Dance Theatre teachers are available for private coaching in 2026.
These lessons can be used to improve our students technique, prepare for exams or work on eisteddfod solos. Students can book in for a 15, 30, 45 or 60 minute private lesson. We suggest that to get the most out of these lessons, private lessons should be attended either on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

Please note that our regular dance classes take precedent over private lessons and can only be scheduled in the available time slots in our 2026 timetable. Private lessons can also be attended during school hours.

Uniform Requirements

Ballet students must wear the studio uniform to their classes. We believe uniforms instil a sense of pride in oneself and makes students feel apart of a team environment. It is for these reasons all students must wear the BDT uniform to all classes.

Learning ballet is wonderful for children even if they never become dancers. It is wonderful because it teaches discipline, grace, and manners.
